Map Critique 10

Critique:
The map is intended to highlight Guagua,Pampanga as the origin of a certain establishment. Without that, this map can be a very good map for the whole province of Pampanga. Because it has a artistically-written title, a very nice compass rose and a very concise legend. The map also showed the details of the cartographer itself and other important details with regards to copyright. What the cartographer simply forgot was to put a map scale in the map.
The choice of color is very outstanding because it gave a vintage appeal to certain map readers. And the font used in the map also gave me an impression of vintage artistry, but what is technically important is that the cartographer used bigger fonts for the cities and smaller fonts for the towns.
The map is somehow multi-purpose in nature because it did not only highlighted the location of different cities and towns in Pampanga but it also highlighted the main roads in the area which facilitates transport in the province. The map also showed the different attractions in Pampanga such as the Mt. Arayat and the Candaba Wild Birds Sanctuary.
The map is a very good example of map which does not sacrifices both quality and artistry. The map gave the necessary information needed for the readers to easily grasp and understand the contents of the map. This work showed that accurate information relay from the sender to the receiver can work without sacrificing the overall aesthetic value of the map.

Critique:
This is quite a good map except for one important element, which is the title. The map shows a scale bar which have its units. It also shows a concise legend needed to better understand the map. It is good that the map has details about important informations such as copyright and website.
Color wise, the choice of color is good because it shows the separation of Canadian States from each other. It is good that the cartographer used bright colors for the Canadian States and pale and only one color for surrounding landmasses. Also, the cartographer used the cool shade of blue to highlight the seas and oceans surrounding Canada. With the choice of color, Canadian States were able to stand out from the rest.
Also, the states and the surrounding seas and landmasses were properly labeled. The labels properly highlights the hierarchy between capital cities, cities to towns by using different font sizes. Bigger font sizes were designated to cities while smaller font sized were designated to towns. The map also delineated lines in order to isolate Canada from neighboring places.
It is also good that the cartographer used the azimuthal projection for the layout of the map since Canada is located in the Northern Hemisphere, wherein majority of its land area will be preserved by using azimuthal projection. This made the map less distorted in terms of its shape and size.

Critique:
The map is quite a good map because it contains the basic elements that it should contain such as the coordinate system, compass (which is very nice in appearance) and a good inset map which highlights the location of Bohol. Though it is a good map, the cartographer forgot to give his/her work an appropriate title which will enable information relay easier.
The map, as I can see it is a tourist map which features the different tourist attractions in Bohol. Good thing that certain tourist destinations were highlighted in the map, such as the Chocoloate Hills. But the choice of color of the tourist attractions were not that good because it does not stand out in the image. The choice of blue for the surrounding seas and green for the land mass really highlighted the contrast between the land and the water.
There are certain symbols, such as lines and points, in the map which should be explained using a map legend, but in this case, an appropriate map legend is missing.
Though the map is very pleasing to the eyes, the exchange of information between the sender and receiver of information will not be that clear if a cartographer forgot to put the basic elements of a map altogether. It will be harder for a map reader to decode the things included in the map.

Critique:
A map without title is confusing. At first glance, I nearly deduced that this map is a climate map of Australia. But I proved myself wrong because this map was really a vegetation map of Australia. As this map implies to me, as its audience, that the title of the map Australia. This map should be given a more appropriate map title in order to relay its message to its audience.
Besides the legend, all of the basic map elements are missing. An appropriate title is missing, a map scale is missing, a northern arrow or compass rose is missing. Though the map is very presentable, I just thought that without its necessary elements, one will find difficulty in deciphering the contents of the map. The map-maker should also prioritized basic map elements because the map's appearance is very pleasing to the eyes.
The map does not only show the overall vegetation type in Australia but it also showed the regional divisions of Australia. This is quite good in regional analysis of Australia which can help the country in different aspects such as regional planning.
The choice of color is good because every color corresponds to the type of vegetation found in the area. For example, the author's choice color green for tropical corresponds well to the type of vegetation in that area. It is also good that the cartographer used sequential colors for adjacent areas to highlight the area's transitional vegetation characteristics.

Critique:
First, I would like to critique the absence of all the basic elements of a map in this particular map. The map has no title, no legend, no map scale, no northern arrow or compass rose, no publication details, no map projection. With that, no one can find great difficulty the purpose of this map. As far as I can see, this is a political map. The map-maker will find hard time in conveying what this map is all about to his/her audience.
There are improper labels of country in the map. One instance is that, Tibet is not an independent country apart from People's Republic of China, but it is highlighted in the map. Another is that Korea is not subdivided into North and South Korea. Famous places in China such as Hong Kong and Macau are also highlighted for in fact it should not.
For a user who is not that familiar with Asia will be misguided by this map. The map does not show the whole extent of Asia. Countries in Western Asia and Northern Asia was not included in the map. What I just thought is that the map is somehow China-centric because it was able to show places like Macau, Tibet and Hong Kong which are not independent from China.
The choice of color is quite good because it is not an eyesore. And the choice of colors highlighted the Philippines, being the one with the brightest color. Between country boundaries was also highlighted due to good choice of contrasting colors.

Critique:
This map faces the same problems seen above. The map lacks the necessary map elements such as title, map legend, map scale bar, northern arrow or compass rose, map projection, the grid systems, map publication details and many more.
The choice of color is somehow repetitive and will not be able to attract a large number of audience. For me, the map lacked appeal in such a way that this map was not able to wake my senses.
There were also problems is labels in the map. Small countries such as Brunei, East Timor, Kuwait, Jordan, Israel, Bahrain and United Arab Emirates were missing in the map. The North Asian countries were also missing in the map. The boundary between North Korea and South Korea and its labels are also missing.
Overall, the map is not satisfactory because the fact that the basic elements and the creative elements are both missing.

Map Critique 5
The basic elements of map such as the title, legend, north arrow is absent in the map.The map does not have a title which will primarily give us an idea of the purpose of the map.
The colors used in the map is somehow intriguing that it separated West Asia from all of Asia because it is assigned with a lighter color. And if this map is a political map, as I had seen due to the delineation of political boundaries, the cartographer should use many types of colors. If the cartographer wanted to separate the different regions in Asia, he/she should use contrasting colors.
The map is full of unnecessary arrows which points to different directions. Though arrows point to countries corresponding with country names, but I don’t think that putting so many arrows in a map is unnecessary because it is disturbing. The Cartographer should have made the map larger so that country names fit with the land area of the country, this will lessen the usage of arrows.

Map Critique 4
Critique:
One good thing that this map showed is that there is a proper inset in which the main focus arose from it. This highlighted the study area to a greater extent without sacrificing the location where it can be found. The map also highlighted the three main islands of the Philippines which adds to the needed details. For the focal point of the map, which is Metro Manila, good thing is that the every city and municipality in Metro Manila was labeled properly.
The basic elements of a map is missing. A map without its basic elements is very hard to understand, a reader can't even know what this map is all about. It only shows the Metro Manila and nothing else. Without the necessary elements of a map,we can't never know what kind of information that the map-maker wants to relay to the audience.
The map lacks important information and it focused more on the design and layout. The map-maker should never forget the basic information that the map should contain. In this map, all was sacrificed for nothing and it is quite disappointing because the map looks so bare without any trace of information and it lacks geographic context.

This time, the map presents the basic map elements such as the north arrow, map scale with units and affiliated organization. But, in my own perspective, the location of north arrow and map scale is inappropriate since it is somehow hidden from sight because the map highlighted more of the WowPhilippines. The north arrow and scale bar should be located below the word Boracay so that it can be noticed by users easily.
The map was studded by too many symbols which we do not know for what it stands for. The map should have a map legend in order to explain the symbols found in the map in order to avoid confusion. Another is that the map should be given a more appropriate title in order to promote better understanding of the map's purpose. An inset should be included in the map so that one person will not find difficulty in locating the area in the map since in a real map, Boracay Island is a very small island.

The map does not have a title. Without the title, map readers will not that be able to understand what the map wants to convey. The compass rose is also absent which may further help in locating the area.
An inset should be included in the map that will enable ordinary map users better understand and locate the area. This will help ordinary map readers in locating where in world Azerbaijan is, since it is a small country.
Good thing that the cartographer chose contrasting colors of blue and brown that can differentiate water and land and the choice of color emphasized his/her study area. Also, the choice of color highlighted the area of study which is Azerbaijan. It is also good that the cartographer included a map scale. A map scale which is simple and has units in it.
Basically, the map lacks the fundamental information it should contain. It may then result to inappropriate map interpretation. Although the map's layout is good, but without the pertinent information needed for better map understanding, it will become useless.

Map Critique 1
This map lack the basic elements of a map. It does not have a title in which people who will be interested in reading the map will have a very hard time analyzing the map. It does not have a scale in any of its forms thought the longitude is latitude was there. The map is very interesting at first glance due to bright colors used in the map, but as time passes by, the reader may find it less interesting because there was no explanation behind those map legend. Explanations from the map legend is very crucial since cartographers should think that when they publish their maps, all sorts of people will read its contents.
